21/12/101PA (2387AD)   Today would see a full scale Coalition attack on Shiftsville, the death of an ancient Thunder Lizard, and the appearance of an orbital capable starship on Earth - although not stricly in that order.
It all begins with Shiftsville's move at 06:03.The rift that is left is one of the biggest to occur in recent years measuring some 2000ft in height and 1000ft in width. It is destined to remain open for 5 hours. This is the start of my Shadows of the Federation Scenario.
Nothing happens for the first half hour, other than the curious approaching the rift and peering through. Things perk up a little when the Saint Claire arrives but nobody is seriously injured in the weapons discharge resulting from the sensor sweep.Over the next three and a half hours various interested parties from Shiftsville and the immediate local come a take a look through the rift and then depart. At 10:05 local time the fun really starts with the appearance of the Firenze. By 10:19 she has crossed to Rifts Earth followed by the Saint Claire. Kemp's air squadron (a pair of Sky Cycles) arrive at 10:23 and are warned off but the party with lieutenant Ivanova's blessing open fire on them. The Sky cycles retaliate incapacitating two of the squad, before being beaten off. One unfortunately loses control after a particulary heavy barage of fire and flies straight through the Rift. Meanwhile the Indian has been using telepathy and has managed to contact Lieutenant Renek on board the Saint Claire. This results in her being transported aboard. It also speeds up the establishment of communications between the Captain Soran and Shiftsville, and provides the Captain immediate local knowledge relating to the developing situation.
With the party's attack on Kemp's forces both Kemp and the Coalition react badly (although due to the previous nights loses Kemp can actually do nothing). The Coalition sends a full assult force to capture the Firenze and Saint Claire. With the Indian aboard the Saint Claire, the Iron Duke is aware of not only the departure of the Coalition forces but also their likely strength. He splits his forces in two, one third heading for Chaskville and the other two thirds for Shiftsville itself. The party opt to move to Chaskville. By the time they arrive preporations are well in order. Numerours TK force shields have been erected to protect the major buildings and as many of the Chask and Shiftsville troops as possible.
The Coalition Nightwings first pass on Chaskville therefore does little damage (although it does knock out most of the TK shields - only half of which are re-established by the second pass). The Death's Head transports deploy their forces which split in two. One Spider-Skull walker and two MkV APCs (with troop compliment) plus 24 Samas,6 Skycycles, and 48 troopers head for Chaskville whilst the remainer heads for Shiftsville itself. Having deployed their forces the Deathheads open fire on the Saint Claire. The Saint Claire responds in kind completely obliterating the lefthand side of one of the transports (1000+MDC damage).
Meanwhile, the Nightwings make their second pass on Chaskville doing heavy damage and inflicting moderate casualties. Realising they're heavly outgunned the Death's Head transports back off and call the Nightwings for a missile strike. The Nightwings respond by firing 80% of their remaining missile at the Saint Claire.
Back on the ground things start to hot up with the appearance of Kyoto(See Shiftsville:Notable Residents-Kyoto) on top of the Spider-Skull Walker. The Skull walker's crew are impotent as the dragon attaches the satchel charge to the front of the walker and teleports away into the ground troops its providing fire support for. The resulting explosion leaves the Skull walker a pile of slag. Meanwhile, Bambi teleports onto the damaged Death's Head and sets about completing its elimination.
The Saint Claire meawhile is in serious trouble. She manages to knockout three of the incoming missile volleys but the remaining three get through, taking out the front and port shields and the port nacell. The resulting internal damage renders Renek unconscious, and heavily wounds Soran. As the Nightwings turn to make a second pass Soran decides to abandon ship, transporting the four of them and minimal supplies to Chaskville, just before the Nightwings remaining missiles blow the Saint Claire apart.
Just when the Coalition thinks its gained the upperhand, things go disasterously wrong as the Sky-Cycles and Samas start their raid on Chaskville. The air shimmers and two minor and one greater air elemental appear, hurling the Samas and Sky-Cycles around as a child would soft toys. Kyoto having dispatched the troops and 6 of the 12 SAMAS which came to their rescue now teleports onto one of the two APCs and a hither to hidden Glitterboy opens up on the other.
Kyoto , clinging to the top of the APC actually has little impact on it, apart from stopping it from going anywhere. The crew try desperately to shake the dragon loose but dislodging a 25 tonne ancient Thunder Lizard is no easy task. From his perch Kyoto sets about systematiclly eliminating the remain active SAMAS and ground troops (knowing full well that any stray shots will hit the APC). With the tide turning in their favour the Shiftsville troops begin to advance on the beleagured Coalition forces.
Realising their tactical mistake the Coalition pulls the force heading for Shiftsville and uses it to reinforce the Chaskville force, with the primary intention of killing the dragon. With the dragon under attack from both ground troops and arriving Samas and Sky-Cycles, he initiates his death-knell spell, calling Bambi from the now obliterated Death's Head transport. With his death imminent Kyoto summons his remaining PPE (in excess of 1000) and plunges the Sword of Atlantis he carries into the APC(The sword is the spells focus - only a rune weapon can be used in this manner and only greater rune weapons survive the incantation). The resulting explosion leaves a crater over 15ft deep and nothing living in a 50 yard radius. The Coalition now suffering extremely heavy casualties (1 Death's head transport, 1 Spider-Skull walker, 2 MKV APCs, 15 Sky-Cycles, 41 Samas, and over 100 infantry) decides to withdraw.
The Irregulars forces now take stock, as the impact of what appears to be two dragon deaths hits home. Chaskville has suffered fairly extensive damage and several hundred Chask lay dead. The Irregulars forces have faired better with only 15% dead and no significant loses other than the dragons. The repair bill however is going to be horrendous.
What happens next takes every one by suprise as a loud thundercrack pierces the sound of the dying, and a heavily wounded Bambi staggers from a rift directly above when the APC was. In his charred front claw he holds the Sword of Atlantis previously owned by Kyoto.
Captain Soran and her crew are taken to Shiftsville, along with their equipment, as guests of the Iron Duke. As soon as the Firenze gets communications back on line Soran explains the situation and the Firenze limps out to the Mid Northern Atlantic to complete repairs. Once the Multi-Phasic cloak is back online she returns to the Shiftsville area parking at 50,000ft.
Meantime the party are officially on R&R and after an hour or so delay they are finally transported back to barracks. Lieutenant Ivanova, then disappears for 3 hours before returning with a status report and an offer. Rather than take R&R there is a opportunity to persue the Slavers, although transport won't be available till the morning. The timelimit before the party would have to return to barracks is 14 days more than enough time to catch the Slavers and then indulge in a little Kemp sabotage - well more than a little, a raid on Kemp's main base! The party, whilst not jumping at the chance, accept.
20/12/101PA (2387AD)   A quiet day for the patrol. After a 5 hour hike through the snow they reach Bill's Machine Shop and the waiting Irregulars Transport. They are then driven to their 'Rift Watch' position about 1 mile North of Shifstville. For them its a quiet night until Shiftsville moves at 06:03.
Elsewhere its anything but a quiet night as two groups take advantage of the Irregulars pre-occupation with the upcoming move.
Firstly Kemp attempts to take out Shiftfville's early warning station - Shimber's Cabin - and the biggest independant farm in the area - Longhill Farm, and secondly the Splurgoth raid Adder Creek.
However its not Kemp's night. Firstly his (and the Coalition's) intelligence gathering units in Shiftsville failed to notice the 2 patrol team ( 4 squads - approx 20 troopers) reinforcement of the cabin complex (mainly due to some clever deception work by the Irregulars).
Kemp's Assault squad of 2 FC Borgs, 2 Juicers, and 1 Crazie walked into a well prepared ambush from which they failed to leave under their own steam. The Light squad (1 PC Borg and 4 grunts) sent to demolish the farm were inflicting heavy damage when they were set upon by a robot of unknown origins. It was a rather short and one sided fight.
Things turned from bad to worse when the Splurgoth hit Adder Creek. Kemp's forces of 1 Psi-Stalker, 2 grunts, and 2 Head-Hunters in Samson armour, plus the additional 8 militia proved no match for the Splurgoth, even with the intevention of the Samas stationed in Shorton. By the end of the night 3/4 of the town lay in ruins, Kemp's forces, the Militia, 2 Kitani troopers, 2 Altaran warriors, 1 Kydian Power Lord, and 8 town residents lay dead, and a further 15 were reported as missing. The remnants ceded sovereignty to Shiftsville in exchange for protection.

02/12/101PA (2387AD)   Three callouts although the patrol were only in a position to respond to the first two. The first was just after 01:30. Trumps Farm reported an intruder tripping the perimeter alarm but other than tracks no-one could be found. The patrol backtracking discovered a large amount of high tech gear and a very cold Rothar (see Aliens Unlimited®), the temperature being a comfortable -4°C, with a 30mph wind, and light snow. The arrangement and state of the equipment indicated some form of dimensional vortex had sucked him and part of his lab here (correct he was working on a very early design of warp engine when the experiment went catastrophically wrong).
The second incident looked much simpler at first hand. Shimber (See Notable Residents - Shimber) had detected a Coalition Dogpack Recon patrol moving in from the East, the patrol were to intercept and establish intent (there are three long range Coalition patrols that are regular visitors to Shiftsville. They come to resupply, get a bath and a beer, note whats going on in town, etc). The Coalition patrol had other ideas and decided to set an ambush (not realising they were heavily outgunned). The ambush failed miserably and a very short battle ensued (approx 90 sec). However the Coalition patrol did manage to get off a mayday call to their SAMAS support unit in Adder Creek. The unit was somewhat disorganised and instead of sending 1 wave of 4 SAMAS sent 2 waves of 2 SAMAS 50 sec apart. This unfortunately was their downfall, along with attempting to attack ground based infantry in a forest by straffing them. After shooting the wings off the SAMAS they were easy pickings for the patrol.
The third incident was a Coalition Recon patrol attempting to backtrack the Cylons past Longhill Sawmill. The Coalition patrol had no interest in anything other than information regarding the Cylons.
01/12/101PA (2387AD)   Two callouts. The first is a minor infraction by a supernatural predator at Longhill Sawmill. The second when initially announced by 'Bambi' is the arrival of another dragon within 50 miles of Shiftsville. 10 minutes later the official call comes in from Mitchell's Garage. Upon investigation the new arrival is a 22 day old hatchling Thunder Lizard, who seems rather fascinated by the vehicles parked in front of the garage.
With careful cajoling the patrol manage to convince the hatchling to return to Shiftsville and speak to 'Bambi' (See Notable Residents - Raghnall). Bambi's orders in this case were unusual for him, either bring the dragon back or ensure it left the area - the undertone here being that deceased was the prefered option.
30/11/101PA (2387AD)   Two incidents that require no squad action (other than filing reports) but have greater significance in campaign terms.
The first is the appearance of two 'Cylon' marines at Longhill Sawmill - who apart from shooting one of the owners do no other damage. The Cylons (a nickname based upon the fact that they look similar to these cyborgs from a late 20th Centuary TV program) give the facility (including all the computer records) the once over, and depart before the patrol arrives.
The second incident is the attack on Ingot's hold by two robots (A63's). Since the hold is a Slurgoth minion sanctuary and until this point in time has been undiscovered by ARCHIE's minions, this is not a good sign. Ingot and the Altarans destroy the robots with out too much dificulty, although two of the Altarans are rendered unconscious.
29/11/101PA (2387AD)   Two callouts but nothing major. Pack of Shyler Wolves attacking Bill's Machine Shop, and a pair of supernatural predators spooking animals at Frazer's Cabin.
28/11/101PA (2387AD)   Campaign Start - Mission brief: Red Watch 24x7 3 minute readiness interception unit. Watch commences 00:00 29th November.
