6: Is this a dream or an escape from reality?

Introduction

First up I made a mistake during the session. The PDAs/tablets belonging to Two, Three, and Four (Portia Lin, Marcus Boone, and Ryo Tetsudo) are in the 3rd Armoured case you opened not in the concealed safe in the Armoury.

Second, unless generally dealing with Three who refuses to use the name she was given by Five, I shall be refering to the Android by her name, Lisa.

When I work out what might be on the PDAs if anything then I’ll either send people an email or a message on Discord. The one least likely to have anything on of any use/value to you will be Three’s. Portia’s, as already revealed, does have the Razza’s GalBank account details (but not the access codes). It also has a few ‘phone’ numbers Commander Nieman of Ferris Corp, Talbor Calcheck (your Fixer), and A.N.Other(Fixer). If they bother to check that same name/number will be in Four’s, One’s, Six’s, and Seven’s PDAs.

The full code to the Vault is "Miss Maplethorpe#04/2637" (without the quotes).

The codes to the safe and the three secure cases are

  • Safe : 8502112058
  • Case 1: 4716556174
  • Case 2: 6934224396
  • Case 3: 6540220456

Is this a dream or an escape from reality?

We begin with the Razza sitting in the emptiness of space 1ly in a random direction from the cooling wreckage of the Far horizon. Most are in their rooms, Three cleaning his guns for the umpteenth time.

Late in the evening, and unknown to the rest of the crew Five heads to sick bay with the modified medscan headset she’s been working on for most of the last 16 hours, post her discussions with Lisa whilst everybody else was off on the Far Horizon.

What they’re about to embark on is completely experimental. Lisa has no idea what is going to happen once they commence, one of the reasons she wants Five in Medical so that she can monitor her condition. The experiment proceeds, with an initial hitch, which results in Lisa insisting that Five rest for several hours before they continue at Five’s insistence.

Recommencing in the early hours of the morning things again don’t proceed as expected, resulting in Lisa making an urgent call to Two, explaining that they have a problem and would she come to Medical urgently.

Two arrives to find Five either asleep, unconscious, or comatose on one of the medical beds. The data readout on the monitor above the bed, which she seems to understand, shows somewhat unusual brain wave patterns in the top half of the display, and unusual physical readouts in the lower half.

Lisa explains that they were undertaking an experiment to determine if Five could access her memories which occur in the form of a dream state in a more controlled manner. Whilst their initial experiment yesterday evening was a partial success she had to end it by removing the adapted medscan probe (which looks to be a cross between a Tiarra, Geordie Le Forge’s visor, and a golfers sun visor) when Five’s brain wave pattern became exceeding erratic as did her physical readouts. In that instance removing the probe caused her to wake from the ‘dream state’. This time is hasn’t happened and she appears to have descended further into the ‘dream state’.

There follows a discussion between Lisa and Two at the end of which Two calls Six with an urgent request that he comes to Medical.

After a short rehash of all the previous explanation Six agrees to attempting to go into Five’s dream state in an attempt to find her and bring her out. Lisa does explain that unlike Five who experiences the dreams directly he would be entering as an observer and therefore shouldn’t be subject to the same degree and therefore shouldn’t get trapped, but this is still all theoretical. She also says he will need to will himself into and out of any memories he encounters until he finds her. With everything set Lisa activates the probe and Six lapses into a dream state. He wakes about 15 minutes later.

Two asks him if he found her, to which he replies that he did. He also says she encountered some memories which have shaken her up considerably and that they should tread carefully. A couple of minutes later Five wakes, although knowing that she is now back on the Razza, she is a little confused, and somewhat mentally exhausted.

Five returns to a more natural form of sleep before retiring to her room a little later, where she remains for the rest of the day.

At breakfast Six asks if anyone knows anything about how they got the Razza. Nobody does. When pressed he says he encountered a memory relating to some sort of attack on a space station. A search of the ships database turns up a news report from about 18months earlier about the destruction of the Hyperion-6 space station by the Procyon Insurrection, a group the GA brands as Terrorists.

 News Reporter:

"In a stunning escalation of their terror campaign, members of the so called Procyon Insurection have attacked and destroyed a space station in the Hyperion sector. The exact death toll is as yet unknown, but its estimated that as many as 10,000 people were on board when the station was bombed. The purportrators are believed to have escaped on a stolen GA destroyer."

"Comander Tarvis of the GA issued this statement earlier today."

Commander Tarvis: "These so called rebels have once again shown themselves to be no more than depraved thugs, who have no respect for law, order, or human decency. And I promise everyone here today, and everyone watching in the far flung corners of the galaxy, they will be brought to justice"

Time passes with no significant progress being made on what their next move should be although they do decide that making their way to an Independent Space station might be useful. The closest Independent they haven’t been to is 22ly 110hours away. After their rapid exit at the last station co-incident with the lock down, Lisa has changed the ships ID to be “The Elenor May”.

At about 2:30am the following morning Five wakes suddenly from a dream, and realises she now knows the code for the vault. She makes her way to the vault and enters the code. The display changes from its default state to green “Access Granted”. She returns to her room without opening it. Once in her room she sends a message to Two “Vault now unlocked”.

Woken by the unusual and unexpected message Two makes her way to the vault, and verifies that the vault is indeed unlocked. She decides to wait before informing everyone else and stands guard until 5am when she sends a general ship wide announcement that “Five has unlocked the Vault”.

Three grabbing an Assault rifle, and then a ration bar from the mess is the first to arrive, followed by Four, One, and Seven. Six decides to go check on Five to make sure she is okay. She says “not particularly” but doesn’t really want to talk about it. Six doesn’t press the issue but says they can talk about it later if she wants. He then proceeds to the mess, grabs a ration bar and then makes his way down to the vault. Two is insisting on waiting on everyone before opening the vault. When Five doesn’t appear she comms her but Five isn’t interested in attending.

Two takes Six aside for a discussion.

Three decides he can’t wait any longer and opens the vault. The doors open about 9”, just about wide enough for somebody to squeeze through and then jam. Three peers into the darkness inside. He can make out shelving and boxes and crates.

Her conversation with Six over Two decides to enter the vault, locating the internal control panel and turning the lights on.

To the left of the door as you enter is secure 5 section floor to ceiling unit which operates similar to mobile library shelving. When Three investigates he find that this is a 5 section weapons locker, and contains a number of Assault Rifles, a selection of conventional pistols, half a dozen stun pistols, several shotguns, 2 Anti-material rifles, a shoulder fired missileer (takes a 4 round canister magazine), and 2 grenade launchers. The ammunition for the Assault Rifles, pistols, and stunners is in the lower section of the units.
In the centre of the floor of the vault is a cryo pod. It’s active and appears to contain a woman in her mid to late 40s. There are two other large crates, and a vast selection of smaller crates and boxes, all locked, stacked around the shelves. Four of the crates/boxes stand out. Three appear to be armoured secure cases about 18” wide, 10” high, and 12” deep. They have digital code locks. The other crate is one of the two on the floor of the vault, the one to the left of the cryo pod. It’s 8ft long, 2ft 6” wide and 2ft 6” high. It appears to be locked with a conventional high security padlock.

There are no keys anywhere in the vault and no key safe.

After an OOC comment about a ‘Captains Locker’ and a GM reminder that the Razza has an Armoury, albeit apparently empty, they go an thoroughly search it. Seven finds hidden away under one of the gun racks a removable panel, underneath which is a concealed safe. It requires a code to open. Two manages to determine that code only consists of 5 digits but they have no idea of the number of digits in the code.

Two contacts Five and asks if she is willing to come and open a safe for them. Five, assuming that they still in the vault asks twice for conformation that there are no genetically engineered Lizard men in the Vault. Two confirms there are not. Five heads to the vault.

When she doesn’t arrive at the armoury, Two contacts her to tell her they are in the armoury. Five retraces her steps back to the bridge deck where the armoury and their staterooms are.

She opens the safe and removes the collection of keys there-in. Everyone then makes their way back down to the Vault. Through trial and error it is found that the keys will open all of the crates/boxes except the 3 secure cases (which have digital locks) and the crate with the padlock on. Two prevails on Five to open them.

Two of the three secure cases are filled with 100,000 denomination GalBank credit chips, each case holding approx. 5,000,000 credits worth. The third case is about half full and also contains 3 PDAs/tablets, Portia Lin, Marcus Boone, and Ryo Tetsudo.

The large crate contains in factory packaging a disassembled female Entertainment/Pleasure Android (GM Note: There is also a Factory advertisement/user manual PDA present). Three wants nothing to do with the Android.

Five asks Four if he can spare her a few minutes as she’d like to talk to him. She explains that some of the memories she encountered relate to his past.
