The Keep of the Thirteenth Hour

Heros of the Hour - Allagahn

Allagahn's Diary

Chapter 18 - Second Time Lucky

Charity has been talking to Merlin, the king of the Courts of Chaos and he has agreed to send around 500 Chaos troops to assist in the defence of the castle. With the extra help provided by Fred’s (the Abyssal demon) Clan, we are in a much stronger position and can now turn our attention back to the keep of the four winds.

Alfred is still MIA, however we are hoping he will snap out of his primal form soon and we can get him back. Apparently the more often he undergoes one of these uncontrolled changes, the more dangerous it is for him. We are going to have to equip him for survivability, a suit similar to my own would help to keep him out of harms way and if he were to have a firearm, he may even be beneficial in a fight.

I have spent much of my day attempting to imbue a Gauss rifle with the appropriate pattern shaping powers to allow it to work in any shadow. It hasn't been easy, but with assistance from the unicorn I am hopeful that it has succeeded. At least I have learnt a lot about pattern tendrils and haven’t broken it in the process!

It is now later in the day. After modifying the weapon I was so exhausted all I could do was sleep. Luckily when I awoke, Alfred had returned and we were able to proceed with the next part of the plan. About then, we all realised that the Book of Salheim had also been left behind in the keep.

Fred loaned us two of his clansmen and along with Charity, Cordellia, Ayla and Alfred, we trekked of to Carnelian. The defences have been beefed up considerably and the process of being let in, is slightly longer, but we got there in the end. Charity walked to the centre of the pattern and trumped the rest of us in. Front there we merged minds and willed ourselves to the stairwell outside the font of power.

The door to the chamber was locked, so we did our best to remain undetected and began to analyse the door. It appeared as though it had been pattern locked by Brand. I tried to locate the book of Salheim and my sword, the sword was still up in the tower, but unfortunately the book had been moved down into the keep. After a bit of deliberation, we decided to link minds and try to force the lock using pattern tendrils. It took all our willpower to do it, but we eventually managed to open the doors, at which point we all collapsed on the floor from exhaustion.
