Chapter 3 - A Detour on the way to Amber

Another three days, why is it I only get time to update this every three days. I am writing from a ship’s cabin somewhere off the coast of Amber surrounded by what is left of Amber’s Royal fleet. Fortunately the fleet is on our side, unfortunately the tens of thousands of demonic creatures that Brand has sent to ripe them to shreds aren't.

Trump Cards

Three days ago we where all sitting in a forest clearing waiting for Ion to get his breath back and teach Taala how to shadow walk. Unfortunately Charity could not take the excitement and started playing around with the Trump cards that she borrowed from Cordelia, after starring at one for a while she suddenly disappeared. Ion immediately decided that she must have been working for Brand and said he would kill her next time they met. Leaping to conclusions or what. I am not sure, Charity did not seem like the type to work for Brand and she is my half sister after all. She is probably in trouble but how can we go to her rescue, she could be anywhere.

As Charity was no longer with us there was no particular rush to get to Amber, we where originally going there mainly so that she could walk the Pattern, and probably collapse in a heap.

Deep Shadow

We decided to head deep into Shadow to a place where time passes very fast compared to Amber, this would give us time to practice our abilities and plan our response to Brand. Things started to get weird fast and we found ourselves in a rolling desert before Taala noticed that we where being followed. Taala seems to be quite good at noticing things, but I still managed to work out it was Cordelia before anyone else.

The Thirteenth hour

No sooner had Cordelia caught up with us than the Thirteen chimes started and the world went gray again. It was strange, we could move but everything else was frozen I wonder what makes us special and whether its the same thing that allows the demons to move. Oh yes the demons, six of, big scaly and lasted less than ten seconds once they annoyed Ion, Dadia and Cordelia. Its strange, they must have known they did not stand a chance yet they attacked anyway. After the excitement was over we sat around and waited for reality to start up again, Cordelia recommended we go to Amber to see if we could find Dworkin as he might be able to throw some light on what was going on.

Sir Ion is Seasick

To get to Amber Cordelia decided we need to take a ship so we traveled to a seaport and shipped out for Kashfa. Well we shipped out and Cordelia made sure we ended up at Kashfa. I am not examining the ethics of that one too carefully. Ion, the great warrior, can't take an ocean voyage. He had an especially bad time as Cordelia decided to shadow walk us through a violent storm to hasten the journey to Kashfa.

Kashfa was not quite as Cordelia was expecting. The King was dead and the whole place was on the verge of civil war and they were definitely not welcoming strangers. We managed to get ashore briefly to try and find word of Amber but the last anyone had heard it had been destroyed. Not exactly the news we were hoping to hear.

Amber at last

We sailed into Amber waters and found the Royal fleet parked off the coast over Remba. The mainland seems to have fallen to Brand and King Random is reported dead in the attack. Gerard and Benedict are holding Remba at the moment but unless someone does something about Brand I do not like the look of their chances. I know Benedict is supposed to be the greatest general that has ever lived but the odds here are ridiculous. Cordelia thinks our only chance is to sneak onto the mainland and see if we can find Dworkin. Oh joy.
